GNU/Linux is a modern computer operating system. There are many different GNU/Linux based operating systems; below are some of the most popular. These operating systems come with free software; which you can run, study, improve and distribute for any purpose. You can freely download these operating systems and install them on your computer.

If you are new to GNU/Linux, we recommend you to try Ubuntu.

You can run Ubuntu without installing: just find an empty 4GB (or larger) USB stick and use Rufus to create bootable USB sticks from Windows. You may then boot your computer from the USB stick into a live Ubuntu session.
